Get involved in the Hinckley and Bosworth Village Games
As part of the National 2012 Inspire Mark Programme, Hinckley and Bosworth Local Sport and Health Alliance is planning to organise a Hinckley and Bosworth Village Games.
What is Hinckley & Bosworth Village Games? The vision is to engage as many people as possible in a fun event based in their locality in May or June 2012 around a 2012 Olympic theme which will inspire them to take up an active pursuit. Village Games are envisaged as family events where children and adults can take part as a team or a group of adults could form a team. The Games would comprise 6 fun skill based events of your choice with the highest scoring teams going on to compete at a Grand Final in Hinckley, at the end of June 2012.
How we will support you: We would provide you with leaflets including details of your event delivered to all households in your locality and prizes for everyone taking part. We would help with kit for events where needed and instructions for individual events. All the information you need to make your Village Games event a success would be provided in an event organiser pack.
How can you get involved? We are hoping that Parish Councils, Primary Schools and local sports clubs will rise to the challenge and see this as an exciting opportunity to bring communities together and recruit people to a healthy lifestyle within the context of London 2012, the Olympic and Paralympic values.
We would need you to form a small committee to organise your event and to run it. Perhaps you have a local event which this could be part of! To help meet our costs we would ask each Parish Council for a donation of between £100 and £200 and for you to collect and forward a £5 entry fee per team. To make it really good fun perhaps you could organise a BBQ, a bouncy castle or some music? The main thing is to have fun!
Please get together with partners in your locality and get back to me with the date and location and any other details of your event so we can include those on the printing for your locality.
If you would like a visit or have any questions please email the LSHA chair, Sue Houghton @ suemh20@msn.com.
Our target is to get 2012 people involved across the Borough. Together we can do it!

Voluntary Action Hinckley & Bosworth has changed…
Whilst continuing to positively support and encourage local volunteering in partnership with Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL), Voluntary Action Hinckley and Bosworth has evolved and is now also very actively engaged in community development and regeneration. Because of the changes and to better reflect the work of Voluntary Action Hinckley & Bosworth; staff and trustees decided that a new name was needed.
A change to our name was therefore adopted at our AGM in November 2010, and our organisation is now called Community Action Hinckley and Bosworth (CAHB).
Help on hand for Voluntary Groups
VAL’s district staff have been working closely with Community Action Hinckley & Bosworth (CAHB) staff to promote volunteering in Hinckley and Bosworth Borough, advising on funding opportunities and recruiting volunteers to support their projects.
For further information, please contact Vicci Barrett on 07971 478426, email vicci.b@valonline.org.uk.
Volunteering
In partnership with CAHB, VAL continues to promote volunteering in the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Area. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to come along to meet Aimee, our Volunteer Advisor, on Tuesday or Thursday mornings between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm at CAHB’s offices on Waterloo Road.
Volunteering opportunities feature regularly in the Hinckley Journal and are promoted by Hilltop Radio which is based at the Community House in Earl Shilton.
VOICE district forum
The VOICE forum provides an opportunity for local voluntary, community and faith groups to meet, share views, ideas and concerns and have a collective say on issues that are relevant to them. VOICE is particularly important in the current financial climate. The sector needs a strong organisation to represent it and the forum provides an opportunity to meet and work together with members of other groups within the Hinckley and Bosworth area.
All are welcome and new members are invited to attend. If you are interested in coming to the next meeting along or getting involved, please contact CAHB on 01455 615962.

Calling all crocheters and knitters!
Grab your hooks and needles and help Inspire LeicesterShire & Lionheart Project create a ‘London 2012 inspired’ pledge blanket in aid of Age Concern, Leicester Shire & Rutland.
We need your help to crochet or knit 6" squares to your own design, which we can join together to create the largest blanket Leicestershire has ever seen. A blanket so big, we will cover a building with it to celebrate the Games in 2012 and inspire all ages to learn new skills.
Each square counts as one pledge, so the more you pledge the bigger the blanket gets. Simply drop your completed square or squares into any Age Concern charity shop in Leicestershire & Rutland.
Join in and be a part of the 2012 Games.
