The Christmas Appeal

Volunteering opportunity – September to December inclusive
The Community Hub has played a key role in the Christmas Appeal for over 20 years. We collect and distribute brand new toys, dried food stuffs and toiletries to local children, families and single people young and old for whom Christmas may be a very difficult or bleak time.
The Volunteer would help with day to day administration of the project and a high degree of confidentiality will be required. This opportunity would be suitable for someone who may have experience of working in an office and you may be required to work quickly and methodically. You will also need to be physically fit for this role as it will include lifting, carrying and going up and down stairs.
Examples of the type of activities you would be involved in are as follows:

  • Helping to design and laminate posters
  • Putting letters in envelopes, printing off labels, sticking them on the envelopes and franking the post
  • Helping to decorate wheelie bins at various locations around the borough
  • Helping to empty donated gifts from the wheelie bins
  • Taking gifts to our 1st floor storage area and putting them in the appropriate place on the shelves
  • Inputting data accurately onto our Access database and printing out information (help will be given with this)
  • Helping with shopping for children’s toys
  • Helping to put gifts into bags for families and applying the correct labels
  • Using a checklist to ensure all gifts bags are made up
  • Helping with deliveries of gifts
  • Afterwards sending out thank you letters
  • Helping to promote the project at events

Commitment:
This would be flexible timing during October, November and December.

Volunteers are required to assist with the operation of Bagworth & Thornton community sports sessions, coaching teams and taking up a role on the Management Committee. More details and contact information are on the Bagworth & Thornton page.
